The red scapular was approved by Pius IX in 1857 following a vision of Jesus and Mary granted to Sister Apolline Andriveau, a Sister of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, at her convent in Troyes in central France in 1846. Placing the body of Jesus in her arms, the Holy Mother said: "The world is drawing down ruin upon itself because it never thinks of the Passion of Jesus Christ. Do your utmost to bring it to meditate thereon, to bring about its salvation."
Like all of our scapulars, it is hand made in England by traditionalist nuns.
